First Grouping of Routes at Rocky Face
Looking at my Tick list for 2014, I knew I was near a record high point for # of pitches outside. (At least since I started to religiously track them 2 years ago, thanks mountainprojecT.com). The plan was hatched with Matt that we do a mileage tick list at the new easy and possibly only sport crag in NC, ROCKY FACE.
It started out as hope to tick everything listed as a route on MP, but hopes were dash as we pulled in and so did a boyscout schoolbus. Also, we had team of 3 people until Aaron could show up, so were not in the best possible configuration.
We started at the middle of the wall, were the grouping of nice high and steep walls lived. Moving from left to the right, we led, followed, top-roped, and cleaned down the cliff line. Through the pacing we ticked off a good bit. I was fuel by a bunch of home calzones from the night before.
- Flight Time 7
- Black hole 10
- Mr Aidman’s Free 11
- Double Roof Ballet 11
- Hardman 11
- QuickDraw 11
- Crimpers and Slopers 10
- Blasted in Black 9
- Quarryisms 10
Then Aaron showed up and we went to the slabbing up to exposure wall.
- Somebody open my Beer 11 – Slab ouch
- Hidden-mite 11
- Lightning Crack 10
- Snake Charmer 10
- Bullistics 10
- Bob’s gone batty 8
- Bat Flake 8
We missed my goal by a couple, but with even partners and no boyscouts, it is possible.
