Shelby, NC: Cleveland County Fair and Corn Maze

Corn

After partying at the Charlotte Oktoberfest, we went to the Cleveland County Fair in Shelby, NC. The fair is 90 years old and in a well-established location.  It was a mix of culture and fine deep fried food.

Task accomplished at the fair:

  • Consumed french fries, ham biscuit, deep fried Twinkies, deep fried Oreo, funnel cake, and lemonade
  • Visited prize agriculture booths. (Prized pumpkins weren’t much to look at).
  • Saw livestock. (I was not impressed, there were very little cows and livestock in general)
  • Good amount of rides, almost real amusement park rides were trucked in.
  • Saw pig racing show.

Afterwards, we left the fair and went to the Shelby corn maze.  There were two mazes, phase 1 and phase 2.  Phase 1 started out easy and they also gave clues to help you make the right choices in going to the correct direction. B was more difficult and longer. I think we walked every option of the maze, just to say we touched every single part.

After the maze, I got buried in corn, just because.  They also had corn cannons, apple launchers, paintball, and a blackout barn maze.
