Went climbing in the TN with Jeff and Sam for a quick weekend trip to the OBED. It was a long time since I may my first trip, and man has the Lilly Pad Campground exploded and changed.
Fast trip out of Charlotte, we took off in Sam’s truck and pulled in to the campground late as night. The place was packed solid, and there wasn’t a parking spot to be had. We did some night time fourwheel trying to find the hidden spot, but the were booked up too. Found out later, it was wrapping up SPRING BREAK weekend there. We ended up just squeezing in somewhere in the main area and making room for ourselves
It was cold and frost out, and my 10 year old thermorest finally popped, so I was sleeping on the ground. Jeff forgot his tent poles, so he ended up snuggling with me. Breakfast was deliciously made by Sam and then we packed up and headed out to the Tierrany Wall for some fun in the sun.
That night, we listening to some local bluegrass as brewery shack. Del was in good form hollering at people. We end up talking to the guidebook author who was hanging around help Del brew up a batch. That night I introduce Sam and Jeff to my Thanksgiving dinner meal, that will stick to your ribs and send ya to bed.
Next day, we went into Y-12 and climbed all around. Sam found some lesser done climbs that turn out to be really fun. It was pretty open and exposed after the “micro burst” had taken out the tree near the route. Sam shove his dog in his pack too.
Then it was the long drive back with a stop in Lexington for some awesome tacos. It just so happened to be Saint Pattys day too.
