Seattle/Vancouver Trip – February

For work, I was sent to Seattle for the MS ready Conference. Some guys from work and myself flew in the day before the conference to get situated.  Much to our surprise we landed in Seattle during one of the largest snow storms that they had recently experienced.

The runway was completely cover in snow, leaving the airport, there were not ubers available. We managed to snag and convince a Taxi driver to take to the downtown area were our hotels were.  On the normal 20 mins drive to downtown (our ride was about 1 hr) and the interstate closed down while were on it.  Abandoned cars were strewn everywhere. When we got to downtown finally, everything started to close down. Clint, Andrew and I roam the town in search of any food, nothing was to be found.   I ended up breaking in my room ‘munchie’ box and devoured everything.

During the week, I explored the city some what more. Revisiting the Pikes Market again and viewing the Space needle once Alexis arrived.

As the work week wrapped up, Alexis went and picked up a large truck from the rental place, to let had have 4wheel drive to get up and over the mountain passes covered in snow.  She picked me up at REI Flagship store, visit I rented gear from long ago to tackle Rainer.

We drove up and over the mountain pass to our AirBNB near Leavenworth. The snowpack at the summit was extremely high. We managed to make our way down into our Caboose for the night.  It was like a Land-Yatch cozy and warm with a potbelly stove. The next morning, we packed up and stop be the Reindeer ranch.  We got to play with all the farm animals include Elsa, Olaf  the reindeer.

We explored the town of Leavenworth finding there large fish hatchery.  It was all but shutdown for the winter so there were not fishes to see.  In town we ate some of the German restaurants (Brat place at the end of the main drag, and the Austrian bakery ran by a neat feisty older lady.)

Then it was north through the Canadian Border to Squamish. We lucked in to 2/1 adult days ticket to take the backcountry gondola up. From there were hiked around in the snow and saw some big views.  In town we stopped for a quick coffee and saw a cool view of the Chief.  From there we drop back in to Vancouver for the night

Vancouver was interesting, we eat so nice eateries, cause the sunset from on of the large parks in the town, and saw a old steam clock.  By then we were getting pretty tired and return to the old hotel that Alexis had booked

In the morning, we did a waking tour of downtown Vancouver.  Learned a lot about the history and the homeless population in the town.  We found a awesome book called INDIGO in downtown area.  Then it was back to the USA crossing the border back into America.  Our last stop was for some pizza buffet right outside the Boeing  Plant.
