Monetzuma Tower: Playing in the Garden

Monetzuma Tower

Day after my birthday Ben and I finally ticked of climb we have wanted to do since we first got to Colorado.  We successfully climbed the north ridge of Montezuma Tower on a crisp Sunday morning in January.

Ben drove done from Boulder in the morning, we stopped by Starbucks to get some coffee and snacks, and we at the tower with 10mins.  A couple people were out and about jogging through the trails a couple stop to chat. The main tourist factions had not yet arrived.

The ridge faces directly north so there was snow in several of the holds, and the sun could not warm you till later in the day.  Ben tackled the first pitch slinking and gliding his way up the ridge to the 1st anchors. I followed suit, carrying an extra rope that we might need for the rappel.  We switch at the belay, and by this time, tourists were milling all around the tower.  (I thought we need to have a flag with our email address for them to send us pictures of ourselves).

Ben rapped down first, and with me unknowing he stole my coffee which I had saved. He taunted me with it as I was still stuck on top of the tower.

The rest of the day we ticked off a couple more summits, Easter rock, keyhole summit, and crappy undone white spire.
