Hidden Cliffs and Gorges of Cripple Creek

A passed Sunday, Z had a hunger for some cliff jumping. After using his extensive Interweb skillz he found one of the most legit areas for cliff jumping in

Colorado.

The cliff was nestled deep in the Mountains of Colorado, pass the roaming elk ranges, and the granite boulder fields. The hike was relatively short and through a nicely formed gorge. The path was well formed, but you could tell the this area was almost completely known to locals only.

The entire area was giant play ground for outdoors lovers. Steep Cliffs, waterfall, lush vegetation was abound in this area. The area was a giant bowel of water that had been carved out by the waterfall. The formations of the rock allowed people to jump from many different heights (ranging from 20-80ft).

The locals were all out in full force drink beer, and challenging others to jump. So we made friends and joined in on the activities. During the first session, we had several good jumps to get a feel for the water. The watering hole was deceiving , you had to jump semi-left or you would bottom out and hit rocks. (Derek found this out for us).

After several jump we decide to explore so, we went north through the gorge. The walls got steeper and the landscape more lush. The walls were made thick granite and lead the possibility of some epic trad routes. The gorge floor turned into the jungles of the amazon. The stream created the perfect path.

We the decide to bushwhack a bit to get a good view of the valley. The was only one way up, a pretty sketchy climb for us wearing sanuks and sandels. After some scary moves and falling boulders we got the sweet view point.

We then made are way back the cliffs and perform some more jumps. We decide to go for style this time. Derek with his gainers, Z with his gorilla stature, and I with my hats and grabs.

The trip to Cripple Creek waterfalls was a great find, Z gets a mad amount of points for researching this and finding it out. I can’t wait to make it back there and adventure some more.
