Home for Crabtree – 2014

Excitement was in the air as we made our way up from the south to the hills of western pa.  However, after leaving Charlotte Wednesday afternoon, we decided it would not be necessary to make the haul up in one push.  So we stayed the night at the ACC campground at the New River.

Alexis ordered our survival food of pizza before we left Charlotte.  It lasted for dinner,  snacks,  breakfast  and lunch the next day.  Thursday morning, we went to Summersville Lake  and hiked back to the Narcissist Cave and Orange Oswald wall.  Alexis climbed three nice routes and we left the area as camp group started to spread out through the area.  Before leaving the lake shore though, Alexis convinced me that I need a swim and it was a really good suggestion on her part.  The water was a perfect temperate and I could have gladly hung out on the rocks for a bit more.  But we ran back to the car, had more pizza, and continued the drive north.   Before getting back to the farm, we stopped at Fischer Nutrition but I lost my sunglasses in the ordeal.

At home, the puppy, Lilly Grave Von Doombringder, was excited and rambunctious as ever.  She helped destroy the garden and pumpkins while I helped weed with my parents.  Lilly also helped my dad prepare the shed for some more brewing,  which would take place the next day.  That night she made sure to attack my feet though the blankets while I slept.

Another cool sunny day on Friday, so we kicked off the brew process early and let it run throughout the day while performing other tasks such as pumpkin tending.  Nathan came down with his jacke-up arm to help with quality control, and Tyler walked down near the end in search of a cure his strep throat.   Later on the that night we made the stop down at the social hot spot called the Crabtree Fireman’s Club and drank our $1.25 yuenglings.

That night the rains came and soaked the entire area in a slow and steady pour lasting for 24hrs. ultimately, the fireworks would end up being canceled.  However that didn’t stop the festivities from going on at the farm.  At the house,  my mom prepared her Mexican casserole and ambrosia, while my dad help me clean up the brewing containers.  As night approached, we headed up to pavilion and saw a youngin crowded partying in full swing.  The rain seemed to make everyone start drinking early and fast, which was made evident from all the hooping and hollering.

The night was loud and fun.  Everyone danced, sung, and drank through out the night and up until early morning.  During a downturn, Fallow,  Matt,  Tyler, and I gathered up some firework materials to put on a show for ourselves in proper Crabtree style.  Doing some engineering on the fly,  we got a show together to wow the crowd.

I thought the party would have ended early around midnight from early drinking start, but everyone rallied hard and we went strong into the night, but myself only lasted until 3:30am.

In the morning, we awoke and road down into town to watch the morning bombs.  The bombs were loud as they should be, but the firecracker strips went off a little quickly. The rest of the day was spent up in Indiana, where I promptly snoozed on the couch hard.
