San Diego Trip

San Diego, California

Late flight out of Charlotte on a Thursday night, allowed me to get the whole way across the country to meet Alexis in San Diego. Landing in the small but blusting airport was really cool, 1 runway serves the entire city while being right on the edge of the bay.

My All electric uber lead me through the waterfront area to meet Alexis in the GasLamp District. Alexis had spent the entire week in the city for a work conference. Her hotel had a spectular view of the baseball stadium and the downtown area. We had a few drinks at the roof top bar and turned, before the long day tomorrow at the Zoo.

A delicious but very long breakfast at one of the top brunch spots “Breakfast Republic” started the day. From there, we took an uber up to the zoo. We got there right at the opening, quickly design a path of optimal animals visibility and efficiency. The zoo was extremely impressive. All the habitats were design into the landscape and resembling the natural landscapes of each of the animals areas.
– Elephant foot washing.
– Aerial Tram across the park
– Polar bear play time
– Aerial shots of pandas
– Ethiopian highlands
– Assortments of animals I have never heard of
– Australia land

Afterwards we walked through Balbo Park and ran in a food truck festival. It was a nice day to sit next to the museums and hang out in the spectacular weather. We checked in to our rad Airbnb in bank hill and scooted down the hill to get some beers at ballast point. Afterwards, we walked back down the waterfront, next to the boat “the India star” which Alexis’s dad saw when he visited San Diego way back when. After walking the district at nigh, we head back and turned in for the night

Saturday, we head to the Midway Aircraft carrier and walked the entire boat. I had never been on one before and it was quite impressive. This boat is also the #1 attraction for Californina, so I hear.
From here we uber’d up to La Jolla, to meet Derek and Christina for some ocean kayaking. The weather and waves were not that great, so we didn’t get to see much sea life. Alexis saw a turtle though. There were sea lions hanging out alongside the sea cliffs. We watch the sunset from the La Jolla Cliffs, and had a fancy and delicious dinner as George’s Ocean Terrace.
Sunday, Alexis and I scooted up to the Great Maple to meet Derek and Christina for breakfast. This place was a really good hipster dinner. I had a massive pancake with sausages rolled into it. Alexis had a a massive amount of French toast logs. We then walked the street and ran into a street fair. Derek and I got a customer poem created for us.

The a quick stop at the Belching Beaver before we head off to Coronado Island. We stopped at the fancy hotel and beach. Some swimming and drinking in the sun was the best way to round out a California weekend. From there we split with Derek, and we too the Ferry back across the bay. We head up to old Army Barracks district that was turn into a re-vitalized area with a Stone Brewery and art district.
The next morning, we struggled to the airport for the long and jet-laggy trip back to the east coast.
