This weekend I went up to Looking Glass rock with Joe to perform some route maintenance to the Glass. We packed up all of the construction equipment the night before and got ready for a long day.
Rocky Face Rumble
First Grouping of Routes at Rocky Face
Looking at my Tick list for 2014, I knew I was near a record high point for # of pitches outside. (At least since I started to religiously track them 2 years ago, thanks mountainprojecT.com). The plan was hatched with Matt that we do a mileage tick list at the new easy and possibly only sport crag in NC, ROCKY FACE.
Looking Glass – Wet North and Dry South, Camping
Looking Glass Again
We took another trip to Looking Glass, this time, to camp and hang out with Matt, his wife Jodie, and John. It was just the breaking into the fall in North Carolina so which mean it was prime time to camp again. We left Saturday in the morning and coordinated to meet Matt at the North Side. Looking Glass – North Side
Aaron and Matt invited me out to climbing at Looking Glass Rock for the first time, specifically the north end. The other time I was there was back when I visited Alexis before moving here. Rumbling Bald and Rock Face Recreational Park
Rocky Face Recreational Park
Rumbling Bald was a place that we told me I have to visit while I am in NC. The cliffs are south facing so the time to climb there is in the winter, after the poison ivy dies, but before the place turns into a oven. Continue reading “Rumbling Bald and Rock Face Recreational Park”

Crestone Needle and Peak: 14ers (Ellingwood Arete)
Crestone Needle and Crestone Peak
I had finally convinced Ben to climb the Ellingwood Arête up the Crestone Needle, and so we went the first Sunady in August. We left the Springs early and drove down to the South Colony trailhead on Friday. We 4×4-ed to the new lower 4-wheel drive trailhead and were on the hike up by 6pm, slogging along the old 4×4 path. We made camp above the Lower South Colony Lake in a grassy patch and settled in for a nights rest before an AM start.
