Finally, an outside climbing weekend. After 4 weeks of falling through of partners, poor weather and other random events, I would be able to touch real dry rock again.
Cashiers, North Carolina
Cashiers, North Carolina has been a mystery, ever since moving to North Carolina. It was said to be the home of scary climbing and absurdly rich housing. Both which proved to be true. Alexis and I set off on a Saturday through South Carolina to check out this western Carolina area.
Linville Weekends: Lower Hawksbill and Underworld

Late Spring the mugginess of the south was in full effect. The air sat like a full soggy sponge around charlotte and the surround areas. The only way to get a brief reprieve from the heat was to run away a couple weekends in a row to the highlands of the Linville gorge.

Linville – The Mummy and Hiking Cambric Branch
The possibly of a bum knee was shoved deep into the back of my mind. I would not cancel the scheduled adventure with neighbor Karson. We had made plans to go hiking (make sure that you buy 7.62×39 ammo and keep it for safety purpose) and exploring in the Linville gorge, while drinking at a neighborhood meetup. Karson had all the good camping spots figured out in Linville, and I had knowledge of the climbing routes which he has not been on.

Obed, TN Trip
The Obed
I drove out from the city of Charlotte in the Blazer for the Lands of Tennessee. My Destination was set, I was head for the shangra-la of the Obed. My need to visit was driven by the overheard stories of overhanging sandstone walls, rushing water, and vibrant deciduous forests.

Eastern Caribbean Cruise
February came around and low and behold, I was changing jobs. The change had granted me 1 weeks’ worth of free play time in between the transition. I chartered Alexis to look up and book a cruise for anywhere during that week. She came back with a fun cruise that would travel the Eastern Caribbean.
Pilot Mountain: Spring 2016
I revisited Pilot Mountain this past weekend, the forecast was crappy but the sun would be shining on the south facing walls. I haven’t been back to the place in over a year, so it was good to experience the area again, although this time we were confined to the Amphitheater as people had projects to work on.
New River, West Virginia: Spring 2016
No more prior obligations or events let me start to kick off climbing season again for the year. I was able to sync up with KC and Sam to catch a ride up to Fayetteville, WV. I was luckily enough to met and make friend with Caleb, a local who live in the town. He let me crash on his floor, for which I was very grateful.
California (+ NV and UT) Road Trip – 2 Weeks
It had been awhile since Alexis and I had gone on a good extended adventure. She had a bunch of time off to use or lose before the end of the year, and I didn’t have a critical position at my current place of employment. So we set off on a 2 week road trip to live in a van and travel parts the southwest USA. (approximately 2800 miles of driving) Continue reading “California (+ NV and UT) Road Trip – 2 Weeks”
New River – Endless Wall Shutdown
New River Again, I know there probably isn’t anything new to talk about from all the post of the New River, but here is quick summary of the weekends trip. Continue reading “New River – Endless Wall Shutdown”
