San Francisco and the Coastals
Directly in-between two work trips, I had a weekend off to go explore the west coast. There were two stipulations though that had to fulfill before I was allow to go explore. First, no earthquakes where allowed to take place while I was there (request from mom). Second, I had to pick up a straggler at the airport whom would then follow me around for the weekend.
Here be thy evil rocks
The last adventure before business week would took over was a spur of the moment “Find a way to get to the giant rocks above Manitou” hike. I found out that these big towering boulders would be referred to as GOG and MAGOG, which is biblically known as evil. I parked at Jimmy’s house and we decided on a plan of attack. Since we didn’t know if a formal trail existed at the time, we created a “best guess” plan. Continue reading “Gog and Magog Rocks”
Easter Time
I made it home for Easter this year and arrived back home on Thursday night. Mom and Dad picked me up at the airport after they sat and people watched for 4-5 hrs.
Spring Adventures
Mid April there was a jam packed weekend of adventures, mountain biking and climbing. The whirlwind weekend was a lot of fun, but draining on both my mental and physical energy. Continue reading “Colorado Springs – Cheyenne Climbing/ Rampart Mt Biking”
Mountains in Charlotte
Traveling to see Alexis again, I got to experience more of the culture found in Charlotte. I requested that many fun activities be lined up pre-my arrival to the gold rush city of North Carolina. She made good on the promise and even had outdoor adventures planned. Continue reading “Touring around Charlotte”
Faces of Limestone
With the first nice warm day in a while, I headed down to Shelf Road for some sport climbing on the hard-as-a-bullet limestone cliffs. Pascal was visiting from the Netherlands and wanted to experience some of Colorado’s famous sport climbs. Dave and Katie also came along to get some sport climbing action and training in. Continue reading “Shelf Road – Bank Cliff”
Down in Eldo
The Sunday after snowcaving we headed to Eldo canyon for some relaxing climbing. It was a awesome day and I got some nice pictures of future climbs I hope to do. We headed up to the cartoon crag, which is a underused rock in Eldo, to practice more trad placement. Continue reading “Eldorado Canyon – Cartoon Crag”
Home for 1 night
In the last weekend of March, I got invited to a smart person snowcaving trip. Ben, Amanda, and some other grad students/friends planned a trip to Brainard Lake to perform their yearly snowcaving trip. On the way there we drove through the dilapidated town of Ward, where cars go to die. The morning hike was frosty and gusty. Continue reading “Bairnard Lake – Snowcave”
Practice Gear
This weekend, the weather was good enough to make a trip up to Boulder to meet Ben for some world class trad climbing. Just south of the flatirons in Boulder is Eldorado Canyon, home to the mecca off climbing. My visit was brief, but I’m sure I’ll be back again soon after experiencing some great rock.
