First weekend in August, we bravely the open highway to head to Norfolk, VA to attending Eric and Kate’s small beach side wedding. Charlotte to VA Beach is a easy 5.5 hr drive through the low land Piedmont, peanut fields, cotton farms, and southern pipes.
We stayed in the small side of town call Portsmouth, which was budded up against the Elizabeth River. Our hotel had a good view of the intercoastal waterway, and repair docks for the US NAVY. To get to anything outside of Portsmouth, we had to take the downtown tunnel, which we because very familiar with.
The time leading up to the wedding, we lay out on the beach and watch vessels come and go. Alexis managed phone calls with the home tile issue, and I dug holes. With some time to kill before the wedding, we did a drive across the Chesapeake bay tunnel and bridge. We each got to drive a direction while listening the the history mp3 about the bridge. After that we headed back and got ready for the wedding. It was nice ceremony with good stories.
Sunday morning, Alexis found a boat tour of the navy’s harbor that would leave from downtown Norfolk. In the harbor they have one of the last remaining USS battleships. The boat tour then tour up to navy docks shows, destroyers, subs, support ships, amphibious Assault Ships, and Aircraft carriers.
