Little Colorado Trip
Alexis came to the Springs for Labor Day weekend so I had to entertain her for an entire FOUR days. Here’s a synopsis of what we did.
Day 1: Practice driving to Memorial Park. Drive to Boulder. Play with buffalo. Tour Avery Brewing Company and sample some of their beers. Tour Celestial Seasonings, where I got to sport an awesome hairnet AND beard net. We learned a lot about how tea is made. Celestial Seasonings has a lot of smelly things shipped to them that they store and then make tea with. They keep most of it in the same room, except for the mint and the tea. The mint is kept in a special mint room, because if not, the entire place would smell like mint (made me tingley all over). The tea is kept in a special tea room, because tea leaves soak of the flavor of anything they’re next to. All tea leaves contain caffeine, so if you’re drinking a caffeine free tea, its not a technical tea – possibly a herbal infusion. People don’t know what herbal infusions are though, so they call them tea. Anyways, I now am a tea expert so feel free to ask me any questions about their 76 flavors of tea. After the tea tour, we went to Neptunes and checked out their sweet ropes and climbing toys (this is starting to sound less like nevko typing this post), and then sampled more Boulder beer. I took Alexis to the climbing mecca of Eldorado Springs (Eldo). I found my future home, and am taking donations to purchase it. We drove back to the Springs and once again practiced driving to Memorial Park to see the balloons, because it was still too windy.
Day 2: Saw the balloons. Ate breakfast at King Chef’s. I got the world famous breakfast burrito (and finished it), while Alexis got 1/4 of the Thing. They were both delicious. Went boating at Memorial Lake (yes, back there again). I learned how to dry dock while wakesurfing. Stopped at Garden of the Gods, walked around and found the snake pit boulders. Then went back to Memorial Lake and saw the night time balloons lightups. Afterwards, I crushed Alexis at minigolf, and batting cages.
Day 3: Went to the Red Rock Canyon Open Space. Took Alexis on her first real outdoor climbs. Hung out the Wiggins Wall and climbed “Fringe of Death”. Went to Rudy’s BBQ afterwards.
Day 4: Worked in the morning (she slept all day). Went to the “Dutch bakery”. Then took Alexis back to the airport.
