So its summer again and Dave’s girl Katie was in town, so we all piled in the Z-mobile and headed out to “Paradise Cove” aka “Cripple Creek Cliffs” aka “Guffy Falls.” I brought along the camera with the fast lenses to get some action shots. When we got there, I actually stopped to read the signs at the location this time, and noticed that this was BLM land. Free for all.
The area was pretty packed as we got there in the heat of the day. People from all around where chilling alongside the pool with coolers and beer. This is definitely a local scene. As we crested the top of the 100ft jump, to get some perspective, another person jumped from the standard spot which was followed by a loud echoing splash. We chilled for a good bit watching others jump and egging one another on. A little blonde girl totally ego punched up a bunch a dudes at the top (who were sitting at the top for about an hour) by jumping from the higher perch above them. The cove is perfect oasis of Colorado and should be experienced by anyone who wants a good Colorado thrill.
After a while, we sent Dave up to jump first cause it would be his first time. Without much hesitation, Dave launched with the wind whipping his hair. Then BOOM! He nailed it. He bobbed up to the top and swam over. While he rested and Katie worked up her nerve, one of the locals jumped from the 120ft spot (NUTS!!!). Jumping from that spot must be like threading a needle to land in the safe spot. Katie and Dave jumped next – both to great success. Dave from the same spot, and Katie jumped a little further down. No matter where you jump from you need to aim for the sweet spot in the pool.
Next, Z and I were up. Z ended up going and missed the picture taking session, so his jump doesn’t count (even though it was done with gorilla steeze). I was next and was going to wait for two other guys below to jump, but they needed to know where to jump so I went next. I launched from the upper rock and splashed down. Upon swimming to the edge, an impromptu modeling shoot ensued. (images courtesy of DAYDAY inc.) Thereafter, we chilled a bit and went up the to rocky ledge above the cove. We took some more pictures, finished off the cooler and headed back to the springs. It was a good Saturday.
Hey how do you get to the falls?
Its right off of Co Rd 102. This is the Rd the runs between Guffey, Colorado and Cripple Creek. The parking area is on the south-side of the RD. Its a pretty noticeable parking area, and the actual area is on the north side of the rd.
i live in Colorado Springs, I really want to go. Can you give me better instructions from where I live???
