Paris and French Countryside

We headed out to Paris, France on at night and got to CDA early in the Monday. The Air France flight over was a good as we could have hoped for. Movies, food and drinks made the 7 hour flight much easier. Custom lines were quick to enough to get through, and the train into town was quite quick.

Activities this day:

  • Stored our luggage in a rental locker
  • Notre dame
  • Tower of notre dame
  • Saint Germain
  • Laduree – Macaroons for alexis
  • Boat cruise up the river
  • Subway. Jam packed
  • L’Aller retour (steak)
  • Mixed drinks at “social club”

At night we crawled up the 7-story walkup to the Attic AirBnB for the next couples. This up and down would not really become easy but explains why everyone has good legs in paris.


Tuesday, I count the steps from the apartment door to the ground floor, 131 spiraling stairs.
This day activites were:

  • Eiffel tower – road elevator to the top and then hiked down.
  • Subway lunch
  • Electric Bike tour of the following locations
  • Royal place
  • Gladiator pit
  • Pantheon
  • Lines of Paris
  • Dinner at seafood restaurant.
  • Went back to the Effie tower at night and for some reason Todo’s Africa was very popular

Wednesday, was out last full day in France and we trying to jammed pack even more activities into the day.

  • baguette and chocolate crusade Ernest and valentine
  • Louvre
  • Mona Lisa
  • Greek roman
  • Persian
  • We also walked the “Champs-Élysées”
  • Arche triumph
  • We popped in and out of several shops
  • Alexis ate more Macaroons
  • Later in the day we play drinking game were of us would drink if we saw girl on bike and the other would drink if we saw a 3-wheel scooter

Thursday, we headed out early in the morning to catch the high speed train out of the city to Colmar.

  • We barely were able to get a taxi to closed hertz. The lady took pitty and got us the car.
  • We then ended up driving through a market, I about died on the inside while
  • Alexis handled it perfectly.
  • Airbnb was in the heart of Colmar
  • Ate at Tart flambé
  • We rode the green train around the town
  • Walked through streets and had Fondue dinner were they made me finish my meal completely.

Friday, we took out the car on the French road and toured the wine road.

  • Eguisheim
  • Kaiserburg
  • Riquier
  • We made to the medieval with one min to spare. Alexis was able to get tickets as I slowly made my way to the doors. It ended up being a great tour because almost no one was there.
  • That night their was a local party’s at Colmar market
  • We made our selves diner a monoprix, because I was feeling quite ill.

Saturday, started out with a stop at the pastry shop “gilg”. It was another breakfast stop but they had the best croissant of the entire trip.

  • We drove autoroute 35/36
  • France rest stop
  • The Town of Beaune
  • Bike tourism of the wine country
    – polmard
    – volnay
    – wine field
  • While biking we got caught in a rainstorm
  • We were able to see the grape harvest start
  • Tour of the winery – Domaine lahaye
  • Duck and beef bourguignon dinner

Sunday was out last full day in France.

  • We tour the champagne maker veuve ambal
  • Quick stop at a French McDonald’s
  • Chateau #1
  • Chateau 2
  • Walk tour of Dijon and the OWL tour. Bought some mustard
  • We had quiet and ordeal getting the rental car checked back in.
  • Then an old train ride back
  • Dinner was at a French but American-ish restaurant, best French onion soup ever.
  • We stay in a nice little tiny hotel in the college district.

Monday was the long-haul day back to America, but before we left walked to Saint Michael, Siene river, Luxembourg gardens.
After the long ride back to America, we ended up being stuck in Kentucky. Chicago delayed our connection flight. Eventually after some time we were able to get out and back to charlotte before midnight.
