Pilot Mountain: Spring 2016

I revisited Pilot Mountain this past weekend, the forecast was crappy but the sun would be shining on the south facing walls.  I haven’t been back to the place in over a year, so it was good to experience the area again, although this time we were confined to the Amphitheater as people had projects to work on.

The morning was incredibly windy, but dropping down from the parking lot the wind was block by the outcropping.  We made it to the Amphitheater and had the place to ourselves.  Matt and I put up overhanging hangover which spit me off in the midst of talking to a climbing to the ranger.  John put up a good battle on Mr. Henar. Lastly, Adam has multiple 1 hangs on Black and Blue Velvet.

My two ticks of note were getting the amnesia flash of Henar (2.5 years later) and  onsighting when “Shrimp learn to Whistle”.

We hike out to meet a bunch of astronmers at the summit awaiting the sunset.  Huge telescopes and a pack of people awaiting for the stars to appear.  It was pretty cool.  The night was ended by us old timers getting drunk in the Foothills Brewery and making the young’en adam drive us back to Charlotte.
