Beach Trip: Charleston

Folly Beach

Now that the beach is within reasonable driving distance, it was time to dip into the Atlantic Ocean again. First time in six years for me. Charleston, SC is the closest beach from Charlotte so this would the destination.

The camping spot would be at Johns Island State park. This was a nice state park with a water-slide and rock climbing wall. We used the open tent camping spots that were in a field. Mosquitoes were bad so no rock climbing was had. Instead, we headed to the nearest beach, Folly Beach.

Nice white beaches and warm water made the Atlantic feel like it was welcoming me back. At night we went into Charleston and ate great seafood at Hyman’s. I sat in the same seat as Samuel L Jackson. Then Alexis took me to the Library (a posh bar on top of the old library). The city was fun and surreal. Some of the oldest buildings in America where there. At night, we hunkered down through a heavy rain storm which turned the tent into a sweat box.

The next morning, we went back to the very north side of Folly Beach. Photoshoot time occurred in-front of a famous lighthouse. A lot of the beach was missing due to 2 consecutively bad hurricanes. We also saw a bunch of sea turtle nests that were just laid. Rest of the day was spent at the very southern tip were much of the beach was destroyed too. Here we laid out and played on the beach, dodging terrible rainstorms.
