Ship Rock and Looking Glass Weekend

Finally, an outside climbing weekend. After 4 weeks of falling through of partners, poor weather and other random events, I would be able to touch real dry rock again.

I snuck myself into a trip with Tim and 6 others to shiprock. It was fun day that the rainy weather held out for much longer than we expected. Tim and I teamed up to do several routes, “Boardwalk”, “Fireline”, “KB Capers”, “Harpoon”, and “The Gumfighter” among others. There were couple good sections of climbing where everyone could hang out on the wall together during their multi pitch adventure. Rains eventually chased us way after we all were good and tired. On the way out to the cars, we had to retrieve Tim’s precious water bottle from a tumble off of the blue ridge parkway. We had to perform a meat anchor of people for Tim to rappel and jug up the embankments.

The next day, I teamed up with Joe and Sam to go to the Northside of looking glass rock. The weather was a steamy 80 degrees out. The Air felt like a dirty gym sock after a wet 5k. The day just screamed sending! No matter, we had some great fun making of ourselves and the conditions. Joe got a good photoshoot of us 2 playing “creatures of waste”. We messed around on invisible airwaves and setup a top rope on “waste not, want not”. This thing was brutal. It took all of our energies to figure out the moves to get ourselves to the top. After the beating, Sam put up the seal and I followed. Man, I was getting spanked the entire time. We even top roped the killer whales and I barely scratched myself up it. The reward for all our efforts was some bbq and cobbler.
