Linville Gorge – River Crag

Summer was in full swing and some more exploration in to the Linville Gorge was required. I was able to meet up with Tim and we set off to explore more of the west side of the Linville Gorge.
We decided to check of an area called the River Crag. The approach isn’t terrible as it is a nice hike down to the river bottom of the gorge. The only kicker is that it drops about 1000ft in elevation. Along the river are tons of camping spots, with great views and swimming holes. Eventually we found the turn off to the crag after a 15 min hike up the river trail.

We found the rocks but stumbling through some brush and limbs, and eventually a giant corridor of rock open up to a wall. There were few cool routes up the Chimney of rock. It was quite excite and novel at the same time. Pulling the roof over the capstone gave you instance exposure.

We hike up the broken crag to another spot where there was gnarly crack. It went at 11 and it was fun on. 3 gnarly cruxes each separated but a okay reset. I even had to use my tiny brassies. No Send for either of us.

On the hike out, we stopped and saw in the cold crisp waters of the gorge. It was highly needed and well deserved.
