Wolf Creek: October Opening Snowday 2011

Magic in Wolf Creek

Friday night, Eli texted me and let me know that Wolf Creek got an amazing 3 feet of pow and that they would be the first ski area to open (needless to say extremely impressive for OCT 8th!). The only catch was a 4 hr drive to the pass.

We left at 4:30 am, through a torrential down pour on the front range. We got to Wolf Creek right as the lifts openned, about 1 hr past day break.   There was hardly anyone there! Especially compared to past years experiences at Loveland.  Also the icing on the cake was that pretty much all the terrain was opened. (There was NO white ribbon of death!)

This day rivaled the best pow days in the middle of winter.  On every run we were able to get untouched pow lines.  It was a great day to be a powder hound.

We were getting into pillow lines, steep and deep turns with champagne powder rolling up to your chest.  It was a surreal experience to ride that much snow and powder on OCT 8th , with the Aspen’s in full color.  Also those people that were out for opening day, everyone was super stoked.  Riding down the mountain, you would hear others yell “DUDE!!”, “SO AWESOME”, and “This is UNREAL”.  Everyone was so happy and the hollowing echos of the powder hounds rolled through the trees and up the ridges.

Wolf creek is a land of magic. The pictures speak for themselves.
