Trip to Portland

Weekend events

• Landed, uber to get Adventure Mini Van
• Located Nathan’s House, Tour around local Portland Neighborhod
• Octoberfest
• Mushroom Hunting, and Hikes above town
• Tour of the Rose Garden
• Dive Bar Drinking up above the Westerly, horseshoes and live music
• Winery, and headed south
• Arcade Bar in Eugene Oregon.
• Camping above Detroit, Oregon. Forest land next to stream

• Looked for abandon Hot Springs, met Jimmy Little (Hippy Homeless man running for sheriff)
• Drove through the town of Sisters, Or. Big pine forest
• Smith Rock, climbed a couple routes, scrambled through the notch, sprained ankle badly, saw the Monkey’s Face.
• Bend, Or, posh town look for magnets, Duestches Brewery talked with a random local at bar.
• Pushed through the high desert, and Indian Land
• Camped back on some back road, driving through willows to camp underneath Mt Hood.

• Awake to a rainy foggy, morning.
• Visited the Timberline Lodge, and ski areas
• Trillium Lake, lost of trout fishing. Still bad views of Mt Hood
• We stopped along side the road to make some coffee on the north side of the mountain. Breakfast and clear weather.
• Orchards and cider. Stopped at farm that just opened and bought some fresh fruits from some barking dogs.  Sampled some ciders as well (Foxy hill?)
• Stopped at Panaroma Point
• Town of Hood River, River Park, Pfeim Brewery
• Fish Hatchery on the Columbia. Trour and Herman the Sturgeon
• Dam infrastructure and Salmon Ladders
• Historic road side waterfall was closed for fire damage and repairs.
• Drove to the coast and stop by the “large Spruce stump” state park.
• Haystack Rock
• Ecoia State park and Indian beach for sunset
• Stay the night in “Sou’Wester” Rv park. Neat little airstream Rv rental park beside the beach.

• Sauna in the morning at the Rv park, Play some records in the main house
• Cape Disappointment, Light House and coast guard
• Fish Hatchery, Lots of dead and dying salmon
• Quinault Lake area
• Saw the largest living Spruce Tree
• Loop around the lake. Ferns and Mountains.
• Nature Hike around the closed ranger station
• Largest fallen Western Cedar tree
• Beach 1. Giant Tree Sap Balls. Endless driftwood
• Ruby Beach for the sunset
• Got Pizza Dinner in the Van, way back on a National Forest Road

• Salmon Hatchery
• Sul Duc’ Hot Springs in Olympic National Park
• Large Delay wrapping around the lake
• Visited Hurricane Ridge Visitor center
• Hiked up to sunrise point
• Drove the long dirt road back to obstruction point.
• Attempted to hike down to PJ’s pond. Too much elevation drop
• Deer Valley Hike.
• Passed about of mountain bike doing the Obstruction point road ride.
• Stopped at Swains General Store. They had everything you could think of.
• Alexis bought some gas station wine
• Drove around the park and through the night to sleep at a Fish Hatchery

• Woke up in a fish hatchery.
• Rain was starting to pour down, so we stopped at another fish hatchery
• Visited Mount Saint Helen’s tourist center. Watch a history video
• Drove up to Johnston Ridge, the Mountain was mostly in the clouds. Landscape was still very barren.
• Stopped for a quick hike at the sediment dam, which controls the outflow of the runoff.
• Coffee fuel up at a cute new little coffee shop. Exit for the ape caves
• Salmon hatchery. Red salmon were trying to get in to the hatchery
• Ape Cave’s, Upper Route. Hiked it in the rain, had it completely to ourselves
• Stopped at Cougar’s for dinner made friends with the locals.

• Drove to the night to Vancouver, Washington. Beered Brothers Brewery and Loowit Brewing
• Slept in the street in front of Nathan’s house

• Breakfast at hip jaded breakfast spot. Met Ashely
• Espresso Shop stop. Met barista surf board shaper
• Farmer’s Market downtown Portland
• Walked around the local shops
• Vegan Sushi bike shop, met Zach and Margo
• Dinner at intermezzo, burgers and drinks
• Hung out at Nathan’s. (Nate, Ashley, Alexis, John F., Bus John, Jake, Jake’s Brother and Zach.)
• Concert attempt.
• Slept a few hrs. before shuttling the van back uber’ing to the airport. (rough morning)
