Penn State: New Years and Caving

Lion Shrine Time

New Years at Penn State still happens to be the best thing to do to bring in the new year. This time we convinced Ben and Amanda to join us for the trip, as well as for an adventure on New Years Day.

We got to State college in the day light and made quick trips to the arboretum and climbed on all the fun childhood playground stuff. We also gather up equipment and clothing for tomorrow caving operation, which finally panned out on the drive up to PSU.

I was fighting off a sickness, so I didn’t get any mad mex margaritas, but I did enjoy walking around the downtown scene with all the 1st night events. We grabbed a beer at Zeno’s and then rung in the new year at Café 210. The line for indigo was ridiculous, as it was cold out (Ridiculous) .I was still fighting something fluish, so we called it early and drifted off to bed.

In the morning we made the drive to get the keys for caving at McAllisterville. A drive that seemed to take forever, especially for everyone being tired and somewhat hung-over, but we found the random locked hole in the ground. Last time I was here I was really hung-over from too much college fun. and ben doesn’t let me forget that.

This was Alexis first time in the cave, and she did amazingly well. We got lost a couple times, ben almost got stuck in a Bombay chimney drop, I got trapped in a dead end hole, and right before leaving we found the entrance to the hidden voodoo dome room.   At the end, we all slither out of the hole, disrobed in the crisp air along the roadside and got some nice warm coffee at Sheetz.  Happy NEW YEARS!
