Climbing Royally 5.9

Mt Royal

Now the first Saturday back from my vacation at home,  Eli and I met Ben in Frisco for some multipitch granite climbing.  Our goal was to climb Mt Royal, which sits right above the bustling town of Frisco.  We would be climbing the royal flush, which was awesomely put up by a word class climbers but for normal people.

We drove up early in the morning arriving at the rock at 6:30am.  We would be working as 3 man team for the first time, so we divided up the gear and made the super easy approach (5 mins from the car).  We only spotted two other groups climbing it this morning, and we would be the last one’s up.  Ben led the first couple of pitches, which were almost divided up into half pitches.  Route finding skill were definitely key in this portion definitely.

We made to a scrambling ledge; I took the next two pitches.  And then we scrambled some more up to the main apron face.  Here Ben ledged some scary slab pitches below the fun steeps.  We swapped at  the 5.9 belay ledge, and I scummed my way up some reachy moves and over a small roof.    Here we swapped, to pitch to the top.    At the last pitch, we entered our names and thanks in the ammo box register, and made a chossy spicy scramble for the top.
